History of the First War

Excerpts from “The First War: A History of the Primordials and Deicide”

“It is said that in the beginning, in a time before mortals, a time of myth and legend, there existed many powerful beings known only as Primordials. These Primordials were vicious, cruel and petty. They created worlds, created life, and destroyed them with little thought. They fought each other, vying for power amidst a swirling sea of potential creation. And so it was for millenia.
Two such beings, who would come to be known as Ishaarl and Ogremach, eventually became the most powerful. Ishaarl was known as the Creator, the Wielder of the Elements, Master of Worlds. Ogremach was the conterpoint to Ishaarl; Destruction, Destroyer of Worlds. Beside their rivalry, the other Primordials were as children.
Soon the Gods arose; the second children of the universe, the Gods were less furious rage and more divine wisdom. The Gods created their own worlds, populated by mortals, and did not destroy them as the Primordials would have. However, neither Ishaarl nor Ogremach enjoyed these other creations, and so sought to destroy them.
The Gods warred with Ishaarl and Ogremach, in what is now known as the First War. In the end, many deities were destroyed, several worlds destroyed, but Ogremach and Ishaarl were weakened and retreated.”

- Excerpt from Chapter II, “Age of Primordials”

“With the Primordials destroyed or in hiding, an era of great creation began. The gods created many world and many creatures to fill those worlds. Many great heroes rose to battle the remnants of the Primordials’ reign of destruction; great beasts beyond imagining, monsters and creatures of pure rage and madness. Mortals survived, and forged their own path.”

- Excerpt from Chapter III, “Age of Legends”

“After the Sundering, when the Primordials were finally defeated, the survivors regrouped. Four of Ishaarl’s pieces, representing four Aspects of creation, were locked away behind gates of powerful magic. These gates required amazing power to keep these powerful Aspects locked away; a raging volcano, a magical font of power, the site where the great battle between Ishaarl and Galidor finally ended, and a tear in the plane, leaking great energy from the Feywild.”

- Excerpt from Chapter III, “Age of Legends”

“Unlike the other Gates, the Earth Gate was connected to the ephemeral Feywild. This planar connection was erratic, traversing many different planes and worlds with no apparent pattern. The only way the original creators of the gate could harness this power was to create a “focus”, which would allow one to call the portal to their plane, as well as bring the bearer to the location. Without this focus, anyone seeking the gate must know where it will be and when.
The focus was an object with a strong connection to the Feywild, and therefore had to be kept in a place on this plane of great natural purity. The island grove of Renferal, a site of natural purity and sanctity, held the focus when not in use."
